We visited Gamidah Jacobs of Lekka Kombuis in the Bo-Kaap to make a delicious homemade curry.
Gamidah shared all of her top tips and tricks with us to make a family favourite recipe.
For Gamidah Jacob’s simple and easy chicken curry recipe, you’ll need:
- Chopped onion
- Chopped fresh tomato
- Ground fennel
- Ground cumin
- Chilli powder
- Turmeric
- Masala e.g. garam, tikka
- Coriander seeds
- Chicken
- Potatoes
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander, chopped
Chop the onions and dry braise them in the pot. Add the chopped fresh tomato.
Add the mix of spice: fennel, cumin, chilli powder, turmeric, masala, and coriander. Add water to the pot.
Add the chicken and potato together as the cooking time for both is approximately the same. Add enough water to cover the chicken and potato so that it can cook evenly.
Cook the curry on high heat without the lid for a thick consistency. Once the potatoes are cooked, reduce the heat. Add the chopped fresh coriander.
Add salt at the end for flavour.
Serve and enjoy!
