Spent the day in Jerusalem, visiting the Wailing Wall and walking the Via Dolorosa (the Stations of the Cross). Fascinating watching people praying at the Wailing Wall – the women’s area separate from the men. A few bar mitzvahs were taking place so the women would stand on chairs on their side, looking over the fence and shouting instructions to their husbands and sons on the other side.
Walking the Via Dolorosa brought so much perspective – I knew the names of places from reading about them but actually seeing the distance between points and walking the route that Jesus would’ve walked whilst carrying his cross was all incredibly moving. There were many pilgrims taking turns carrying large, heavy crosses along the route, many with tears in their eyes.
Was served the biggest bowl of hummus for lunch, along with some pita and delicious falafels. Yum! After eating meals at restaurants three times a day for nearly a month, a detox is imminent!
