Hot cross syrup

Will last for up to a week in the fridge.

Makes ±550ml EASY 1 hr

WHAT YOU NEED

300ml water

200ml orange juice

2 tsp ground cinnamon

1 tsp ground nutmeg

2 tsp ground allspice

1 tsp coarse salt

zest of 1 orange

250g white sugar

250g treacle sugar

HOW TO DO IT

  1. In a small saucepan over high heat, bring the water, orange juice, spices and salt to the boil.
  2. Add the orange zest and sugars, reduce the heat and simmer, stirring, for 15 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Pour through a fine strainer/muslin cloth into a clean glass bottle, then seal and refrigerate.
