Conscious cooks: A sustainable food trend that’s here to stay

April 22, 2023 (Last Updated: April 18, 2023)

The shift to a more sustainable and conscious kitchen continues throughout the next year.

With an emphasis on growing your own food, understanding your ingredients, and buying local, many will embark on trying home-grown meals.

Here are some places to try:

Conscious Carnivores, Makers Landing, Cape Town

The team behind Conscious Carnivores is all about high-quality meat with no short cuts.

You can experience delicious ready-made Halaal dishes in the ambience of Makers Landing, or you can purchase their quality meat at their Conscious Meat Merchants butchery section.

The Conscious Kitchen, Cape Town

The Conscious Kitchen is a plant-based juice bar and café that strives for “the most conscious way of eating, producing & consuming”.

At The Conscious Kitchen they source local and organic ingredients, where possible, and stay away from non-biodegradable packaging like plastic.

Kaylees Eatery, Johannesburg

Kaylees Eatery is a vegan eatery in Joburg that describes itself as “[i]nventive and playful” to show people how easy and fun an eco-conscious vegan diet can be.

The best part? They’ve opened a dog-friendly café called Central Bark where you can spend time with your fur baby while enjoying some tasty treats.
