Dark chocolate and fruit fondue recipe

Was there ever a simpler dessert than dark chocolate and fruit fondue? This dish will be ready in less than 20 minutes, although it’s so delicious that it might not take longer than 5 to finish off. The secret to having a memorable and fun fondue is to dream up delicious things to dunk, so don’t be afraid to include treats like angel food cake cubes, marshmallows, tiny brownies, tiny cookies, ladyfingers, shortbread, amaretti, biscotti or meringues to dunk in the chocolate.

Dark chocolate and fruit fondue

Serves: 6 – 8
Cooking Time: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • 100g sugar
  • 100ml water
  • 200g good-quality dark
  • chocolate, cubed
  • 30ml (2 tbsp) golden syrup
  • 250ml (1 cup) fresh cream, heated
  • selection of seasonal fruit, Madeira cake slices and marshmallows, to serve

Instructions

Heat the sugar and water in a saucepan and stir until the sugar has melted and gone syrupy.

Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water. Add the golden syrup and enough sugar syrup to form a smooth sauce. Stir in the cream and transfer to a fondue pot and serve with the fruit, cake and marshmallows.

Notes

To drink: A rich, fruity vintage port is a heady match with chocolate.
